What really is the Santorini Experience?
Santorini Municipality, Municipal Sports Cultural & Environmental Organization in Santorini (DAPPOS) and the award-winning Active Media Group co-organize Santorini Experience which includes open water swimming in the Aegean Sea and trail running along the Caldera.
Visit the top travel destination and participate in a unique sporting experience, while enjoying the Cycladic architecture and the scenic landscape of Santorini.
What does Santorini Experience include?
The event’s program includes open water swimming from the volcano to the old port of Fira. The swimming route (1.5 mile) has been designed by the Coach of the Greek National Swimming Team, with Olympic and World championship distinctions in open water swimming, Nikos Gemelos.
Silver Olympic medalist and World Champion in open water swimming, Spiros Gianniotis, British two-time silver Olympic medalist at the Rio Olympics in 2016, Jazz Carlin, Japanese Olympic Champion at Rio, Yasunari Hirai, Hungarian recognized swimmer and member of the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (IMSHOF), Attila Manyoki and great names of the Greek National Swimming Team, such as World Champion in open water swimming, Kelly Araouzou, together with swimmers like Antonis Fokaidis, George Arniakos and Dimitris Negris have taken part in Santorini Experience.
Respectively, various trail running routes (5km, 10km, 15km “Aristides Alafouzos”) will be held at the picturesque path that connects Oia with Fira overlooking the Caldera. Routes have been designed by the former marathon runner & holder of national record on the classical route, running coach and manager of All About Running, Nikos Polias.
The event will be held under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization and is approved by the Hellenic Swimming Federation (KOE).
